Fire damages home in Uniontown
Firefighters quickly contained a fire on the first floor of a home at 310 Evans St. in Uniontown on Monday evening.
No injuries were reported, but the homeowner said her daughter was taken to Uniontown Hospital as a precaution after paramedics checked her at the scene.
The girlĢƵ mother, who did not wish to be identified, said her daughter ran to the second floor to get her cellphone after smoke started spreading in the house.
“You know how teenagers are,” she said.
The fire started in a cavity between the wall studs in a room adjacent to the kitchen and spread into the kitchen through an open walkway, said Lt. Scott Conn of the Uniontown Fire Department. The fire started at 8:15 p.m.
Firefighters from the city and Hopwood managed to contain the fire in about five minutes, despite heavy smoke.
“There was a lot of smoke,” Conn said.
He said the fire was probably caused by an electrical malfunction and was accidental.
