Man arraigned in Monessen bar fight, victim seriously injured

A Monessen man was arraigned Monday morning on attempted homicide charges for allegedly leaving a man with severe facial injuries after a bar fight.

Police watched surveillance footage at the Chateau Lounge that allegedly showed Jeffery “JAP” Hill, 59, in a confrontation with an unknown black man Friday, court documents said.

The alleged victim was flown by helicopter to a trauma facility with severe facial injuries and profuse bleeding. Police said the right side of his face was “completely cut in half,” according to the affidavit.

Police said the footage showed Hill knocking the victim to the ground and others holding him back. He allegedly broke free and rushed back to the man who was on the floor trying to get up. Police said Hill struck the man and grabbed a knife.

There was blood on the sidewalk and in the doorway when police arrived, they said.

Hill was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Joseph A. Dalfonso on a $50,000 unsecured bond.

He is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. July 15 before Dalfonso.
