Monessen house fire ruled accidental
A state police fire marshal determined a Thursday morning blaze in Monessen was accidental.
Monessen fire Chief Chris Rhome said no one was home when the fire started at 102 Elm St. Firefighters were called to the scene just before 9 a.m.
No one was injured, but two cats died in the fire. He said the kitchen was gutted by the blaze and the rest was damaged by smoke and water.
The home is owned by Kayla Snyder. The property was insured, Rhome said.
Tpr. James Garlick determined the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
“It was the result of a faulty kitchen stove plug,” Rhome said.
Rostraver, Lock 4, and Carroll Twp. fire departments assisted at the scene.
