Classes, seminars

n Childbirth and labor preparation courses, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and May 18, Community Room 1, main lobby, Uniontown Hospital. During the class Family Beginnings Birthing Center nurses teach about pregnancy discomforts, labor and delivery, pain relief options, potential complications, breathing and relaxation, self and infant care. n LICC meeting/class, 5-7 p.m. May 19, Fayette County Behavioral Health Administration, 215 Jacob Murphy Lane, Uniontown. Jennifer Fosbrink from Connellsville Counseling will discuss parent child interactive therapy and Dan Richason from Systems 123 will discuss “Families and Behavior-A Support Continuum.” Dinner will be provided and a small stipend will be given to families in attendance. n Community CPR instruction, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Mon-Vale HealthPLEX. Adult CPR classes are offered by Monongahela Valley Hospital in conjunction with Rostraver EMS. The fee for the class is $35 to cover the class and required materials. Registration: 724-872-9200.

n Healthy eating supermarket tours, 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Rostraver Shop n’ Save, 600 Willowbrook Plaza, Belle Vernon. Learn how to modify recipes at the supermarket to manage a healthier lifestyle. Health care professionals from Monongahela Valley Hospital’s Nutrition and Food Service will conduct the tours and discuss “Recipe Modification.” The program is free, but space is limited. n Managing Your Diabetes, 6-9 p.m. May 17, 18 and 19, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. Topics include the importance of controlling blood sugars, diabetes medications, lifestyle changes, meal planning and methods to reduce your risk of complications. n Innovations in Medicine: Living with arthritis pain/related conditions, 6 p.m. May 18, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. This free session is designed to give information to those individuals struggling with arthritis pain and related condtions. Dr. Ajay Mathur, FACP Rheumatologist will present. n Weight Loss Surgery for a Healthier You information seminar, 5:30 p.m. May 19, Community Room 2, main lobby, Uniontown Hospital. Anyone considering bariatric surgery is encouraged to attend this free information session to ensure they are fully aware of the process and the expected results. Information: 724-430-LOSE(5673).

n The Safe Sitter Program, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 28, Community Room 1, main lobby. Uniontown Hospital. During the class children will learn about safety for the sitter, safety precautions to prevent accidents from happening, how and when to call for help, basic life saving techniques, age appropriate entertainment, etc. This course is recognized for excellence by the American Academy of Pediatrics. n Caring Corner Grief Support Program for families and children, 6-8 p.m. every Monday, East End United Community Center, Uniontown. Information: 724-437-1660.

n Survivors of Incest Anonymous meeting, 6:30-8 p.m. every Monday, Mount St. Macrina Retreat Center, Uniontown. The group is a 12-step recovery program for people 18 or older who were sexually abused by a trusted person as a child. Information: peopleofcourage@gmail.com or siawso.org.

n Silver Generation Support Program, 10 a.m. to noon every Wednesday, East End United Community Center. The program is for adults ages 55 and older. Information: 724-437-1660.

n Al-Anon Family Groups, 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Trinity Church basement, Fayette and Morgantown streets, Uniontown, and 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Christian Church, Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville. n Grief Share, a faith-centered grief support group, 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Uniontown Church of the Brethren, 20 Robinson St., Uniontown. Information: 724-438-8372.

n Celebrate Recovery meetings, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Third Presbyterian Church, 425 Union St., Uniontown, and 10 a.m. Saturdays, Abundant Life Church, 1239 Brownfield Road, Uniontown. The program is based on biblical principles with the purpose of letting God restore the mental, physical and emotional.

n Suicide bereavement support group, 1-2:15 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today and May23, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. This group is a four-month program that meets the second and fourth Mondays of each month. This program is led by a licensed psychologist and is free and open to all those touched by suicide. n Diabetes support group, 6-8 p.m. today, Mon-Vale HealthPLEX, Room 120. This group is free for people with diabetes, their families and caregivers. Advance registration required: 724-258-1483.

n Prostate cancer support group, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. All prostate cancer patients, families and caregivers are invited to attend this free support group. Information: 724-292-9404.

n Cancer support group, 2 p.m. May 16, Monongahela Valley Hospital, 7-East Family Room. The group is free and open to all cancer patients and their families. The group meets the third Monday of the month. Information: 724-258-1704.

n Better Breathers Club, 2-3 p.m. May 17, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. This club is free and open to all adults and their family, friends or caregivers who want to learn or share information about living well with breathing issues. Information: 724-258-1932.

n Alzheimer’s support group, 6-8 p.m. May 17, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. This group is designed to help the family members, friends and caregivers of those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Topics include the challenges of coping with this disorder as well as techniques for managing stress and methods of encouraging social engagement. Reservations requested: 724-258-1333.

n Stroke support group, 6-8 p.m. May 19, Community Room 1, main lobby, Uniontown Hospital. Stroke survivors, caregivers, loved ones and anyone interested in learning about stroke is invited. Events

n Uniontown Hospital radiation oncology open house, 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 17, Robert E. Eberly Pavilion, 51 Brewer Drive, Uniontown. The open house will showcase the latest radiation oncology technologies available to patients. Come and meet the team and tour the facility. No registration is required for the event.

n Exercises classes, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Center in the Woods, 130 Woodland Court, Brownsville. Classes include chair dancing at 9:30 a.m. followed by healthy steps at 11 a.m. Information: 724-938-3554.
