n Smoking cessation program, 4-5 p.m. Thursday and Oct. 13, 20, 25 and 27, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. Classes are offered for free for Primary Care Resource Center patients, MVH employees and anyone with a referral from an MVH-affiliated primary care physician. The cost is $20 for others. n Breast cancer education and screening luncheon, 12:30 p.m. Oct. 19, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. The event is free to those registering and will feature a light lunch, guest speakers, information regarding early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, optional breast examinations and vendor displays. n Caring Corner Grief Support Program for families and children, 6-8 p.m. every Monday, East End United Community Center, Uniontown. Information: 724-437-1660.

n Survivors of Incest Anonymous meeting, 6:30-8 p.m. first and third Monday of the month (except for holidays), Mount Macrina Retreat Center, Uniontown. The group is a 12-step recovery program for women and men, age 18 or older, who were sexually abused by a trusted person as a child. Information: peopleofcourage@gmail.com or siawso.org.

n Silver Generation Support Program, 10 a.m. to noon every Wednesday, East End United Community Center. The program is for adults ages 55 and older. Information: 724-437-1660.

n Al-Anon Family Groups, 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Trinity Church basement, Fayette and Morgantown streets, Uniontown, and 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Christian Church, Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville. n Celebrate Recovery meetings 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Abundant Life Church, 1239 Brownfield Road, Uniontown. The program is based on biblical principles with the purpose of letting God restore the mental, physical and emotional.

n Mental Health Association in Fayette County Advocacy Network suicide bereavement support group, 6:30-8:30 p.m. first and third Thursday of each month starting Oct. 6, 100 New Salem Road, first floor/first door on the right, Uniontown. Information: 724-880-1644 or 724-438-6738.

n Stepping Stones bereavement support group, 7 p.m., Mondays, Fayette Health Center, 100 New Salem Road, Uniontown. The program runs for 10 weeks and will deal with various aspects of grief. Information and registration: 724-438-9373 or 724-439-1683.

n Breast cancer support group, 2-4 p.m. today, Monongahela Valley Hospital, 7-East Family Room. The group meets on the first Monday of the month. Information: 724-258-1700.

n RSDS support group, 6-8 p.m. Oct. 11, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. Free group meets once a month. Topics include the challenges of coping with the disorder as well as techniques for managing stress and methods of encouraging social engagement. Reservations requested: 724-258-1333.

n Violent crime parent/family support group, initiated by The Crime Victims’ Center starting in September at the Crime Victims’ Center conference room located at Oliver Square Plaza off Route 51 in Uniontown. The group is for parents/families who have lost a child due to a violent crime (homicides, DUI crashes and others). Topics will include discussing the grief process, denial, anger, guilt, fear and sharing ideas. The group will include guest speakers discussing the legal/court system, a family therapist to discuss tools to keep the family together and difficulties that may arise between a husband and wife. n Crime Victims’ Center of Fayette County provides quality services for all victims and families of sexual assault and other violent crimes. Most services are free, and all services are strictly confidential. Information: 724-438-1470; Crisis Hotline: 724-437-3737.

Events

n Mon Valley YMCA Zumbathon, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, the gymnasium at the Mon Valley YMCA. Cost to participate is $10 and benefits the MVH/Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk. There will also be an auction, 50/50 and more. Tickets at the door or the Y’s business office. Information: 724-483-8077.

n MVH Blood Drive, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. Red Cross is sponsoring a blood drive for local patients. Information and registration: 724-494-4090 redcrosslife.org.

n Monongahela Valley Hospital/Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk, 10 a.m. Saturday, starting at the Market House. Walkers are asked to make a minimum donation of $10. The superhero themed event will raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Information: 724-258-1855.

n Drug Take Back Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 22, the circular drive outside of Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, Monongahela Valley Hospital. Personal information should be removed from bottles or packages of expired, unwanted or unused controlled, non-controlled or over-the-counter medications. Liquid products and creams in their containers will be accepted. Sharps and syringes will not be accepted due to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne diseases. Collection will be anonymous.

n Bundled with Love, sponsored by The Auxiliary leadership of WHS Washington Hospital, will except gently used, clean winter coats and apparel for newborns through teens. Drop off locations inside WHS Washington Hospital include the front lobby, the cafeteria, near the employee entrance on level 2 (near housekeeping) and WHS School of Nursing main entrance. Today is the last day to donate before they are sorted, boxed and donated to the Salvation Army of Washington County where they will stay locally.

n Exercise classes, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Center in the Woods, 130 Woodland Court, Brownsville. Classes include chair dancing at 9:30 a.m. followed by healthy steps at 11 a.m. Information: 724-938-3554.
