Laurel Highlands High School cleared after bomb threat
Within hours of a Laurel Highlands studentĢƵ preliminary hearing on bomb threat charges, a student found a similar threat on a bathroom wall in the high school Tuesday.
The school was evacuated for the second time in about five weeks for a bomb threat. Laurel Highlands School District Superintendent Jesse Wallace said a student found the note scrawled on a stall in the girls’ bathroom. Another student confessed to writing it, he said.
The students were evacuated to the football stadium at about 1:15 p.m.
Wallace said the students left the school at normal time after buses picked up the students at the stadium.
State police bomb dogs cleared the scene, but remained at the school for training.
“Since we had a confession, we’re using this opportunity with the state police to help train the dogs and sharpen their skills,” he said.
Tuesday morning, Celena Renee Hale, 18, of Uniontown waived her charges of making a bomb threat Sept. 12 in Fayette County Central Court.
She is charged with terroristic threats causing evacuation, bomb threats and disorderly conduct.
She is free on a $25,000 unsecured bond.
