Uniontown man allegedly threatened a witness during his hearing
A Uniontown man charged with aggravated assault allegedly turned to a witness during his preliminary hearing and said “I’m coming for you.”
Tobias Alexander Mitchell, 35, of South Mount Vernon Avenue was charged with intimidating a witness Wednesday.
Police said Mitchell threatened Diane Scherer during his preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Michael Metros April 18. Scherer told authorities she witnessed Mitchell assaulting Gerald Hall at a Nutt Avenue apartment March 30.
Mitchell allegedly assaulted Hall because he would not sell a TV for him. Police said he kicked in the apartment door with an unidentified man and hit Hall in the head with a toaster and an unknown object.
Scherer tried to assist Hall, but the other man grabbed her by the hair and held her down, she reported.
Mitchell was serving a one-year probation term that began in February after he pleaded guilty to a terroristic threats charge for holding a couple hostage and forcing a man to make ATM withdrawals in July. Other charges were dismissed in the case as part of a plea agreement with the Fayette County District AttorneyĢƵ Office.
A jury found Mitchell not guilty of access device fraud, theft by deception and receiving stolen property in January from a second incident in Uniontown in July.
Mitchell is awaiting his preliminary arraignment in the most recent case. He remains lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $35,000 bond for aggravated assault and related charges.
