A man and woman are facing charges after police said they overdosed with an infant in their car in a Monessen plaza.

Brittany Kurowski, 28, of Ellsworth was allegedly found slumped over her 6-month-old son in a car seat Monday afternoon. A 911 caller said a man, later identified as Gregg A. Kubasiak, 31, of Bentleyville was outside the vehicle “singing to the sky and saying he lost his shoe,” court documents said.

Kubasiak was in a daze and did not respond to officers initially, but became alert and resisted arrest when they attempted to handcuff him in the parking lot of 1735 Grand Blvd., according to court documents.

Monessen police said Kurowski had a bluish tint to her lips. Officers revived her with Narcan.

Mon Valley EMS tended to the child, who was warm when they arrived. He was transported to Monongahela Valley Hospital. Washington County Children & Youth Services were contacted to handle the child’s care.

Police said they found a bundle of heroin and cut straws in the vehicle, and another bundle of heroin in Kurowski’s body cavity. She initially told first responders she took four benadryl, but later admitted to consuming two bags of heroin with benadryl, the affidavit said.

Both Kuroswki and Kubasiak were charged with endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and possession of drug paraphernalia. Kubasiak is facing an additional count of possession of a controlled substance, and Kurowski is facing an additional count of tampering with physical evidence.

Kurowski and Kubasiak are lodged in Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of bond, set at $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.
