The 16-year-old boy who allegedly shot and killed a 19-year-old man on Thursday morning has been identified as he was charged with criminal homicide.

Kaii Nishaun McCargo, 16, is lodged in the Fayette County Prison and was denied bail after a 1:40 a.m. Aug. 10 shooting in North Union Township that left Raji Raven Hickenbottom, 19, dead.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, state police learned that Daejean Isiah Hooper, McCargo and Hickenbottom went to a residence at 15 Clark St., where Hooper had a verbal argument with the occupants a short time earlier.

Hooper told police that once they arrived in front of the residence on Clark Street, Hickenbottom and Raphael Antonio Cannon started fighting while Hooper and McCargo stood a few feet away from the fight.

Hooper told police that McCargo was holding a silver .38 caliber revolver in his hand and wad pointing it at Hickenbottom and Cannon while they fought.

Hooper said he heard a single gunshot and ran for cover behind a vehicle and then went to Hickenbottom to find the man was shot in the chest.

Hickenbottom was placed in a car by Hooper and Laenil Robinson, and the two transported him to Uniontown Hospital.

Arresting officer Trooper Joshua Mrosko stated in the criminal complaint that troopers arrived at the hospital at 1:50 a.m. on Thursday where Hickenbottom was pronounced dead.

Along with the charge of criminal homicide, McCargo was charged with attempted homicide, possession of a firearm by a minor, firearm not to be carried without a license and recklessly endangering another person.

He was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Jeffries at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Wendy Dennis at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 22.

An autopsy was performed by Dr. Cyril Wecht on Thursday where it was found that Hickenbottom died from a lethal gunshot wound, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s office.

Toxicology tests on Hickenbottom are pending.
