Charleroi boy dies from injuries suffered in bike crash
A 12-year-old Charleroi boy who suffered major injuries when his bicycle collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee in Jefferson Township, Fayette County, died at the hospital.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the boy as Austin Norquist. He died at Children’s Hospital of UPMC of Pittsburgh, Tuesday evening.
State police are investigating the crash. Norquist collided with the Jeep at the intersection of Jefferson and Lincoln Drive at about 6 p.m. Aug. 17. The driver, Jennifer M. Taylor, 41, of Fayette City, was not injured.
The Allegheny Medical Examiner completed an autopsy and ruled the death accidental due to blunt force trauma suffered in the collision.
Norquist was a student at Charleroi Area School District. Superintendent Edward Zelich sent a letter to parents in which he encouraged them to talk to their children about their feelings in response to the death.
