Stolen state police cruiser crashes in Wharton
A man stole a state police cruiser, prompting a chase that ended in a crash in Wharton Township Thursday afternoon, according to emergency officials.
Officials did not identify who stole the vehicle, nor detail the circumstances of how it was taken. The cruiser crashed around 1:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Chalkhill Ohiopyle Road.
The stolen cruiser flipped onto its side. Police reported no injuries in the crash.
“Our troopers are fine. The individual is fine,” said state police Trooper Robert Broadwater.
Witnesses, who asked not to be identified by name, said they saw a police cruiser without emergency lights activated “flying” down the road, followed immediately by two state police vehicles with emergency lights activated.
One witness said the driver of the stolen vehicle was wearing only boxer shorts.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
