Monongahela woman killed in apparent murder-suicide

1 min read

Circumstances leading up to a murder-suicide in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday are still under investigation, according to authorities.

On Wednesday, the Westmoreland County coroner’s office said Ashley L. Ugoletti, 27, of Monongahela, Washington County, died of exsanguination from multiple stab wounds inflicted by Nguyen Tran, 31, at his 218 College Ave. home in Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County.

Ugoletti’s death was listed as a homicide; Tran’s as a suicide.

Westmoreland County Detective Ray Dupilka said Ugoletti sustained multiple stab wounds to her torso, back and arms.

Dupilka said Tran was found hung in an upstairs bedroom of his home.

“There’s no indication that anybody else was involved,” Dupilka said.

Mount Pleasant Police were called to Tran’s home at some point Wednesday, where the bodies were discovered. Police have since said the victims were not in a relationship but have stopped short of saying why they were together.

Dupilka said investigators are conducting cellphone forensics to determine why Ugoletti was at the Mount Pleasant home.

Deputy Coroner Jonathon W. Jenkins pronounced Ugoletti and Tran dead just before 9 p.m.

Mount Pleasant police and the Westmoreland County Detective Bureau are investigating.
