Five members of a Connellsville family escaped a fire that heavily damaged their East Crawford Avenue home Monday thanks to the quick actions of passers-by who alerted them to the fire.

Eight fire companies responded to a house fire on East Crawford Avenue in Connellsville on Monday.

A Connellsville family of five escaped their burning house at about 8:30 a.m. Monday.

No one was injured, officials said, but the house was heavily damaged.

Passers-by saw the fire and alerted the family, officials said.

Eight fire companies from two counties were called in to fight the fire. Connellsville police are also investigating.

New Haven Hose, Connellsville Township, South Connellsville, Morrell, Everson, Perry Township and Scottdale volunteer fire companies and Fayette EMS responded.
