A firefighter with the West Brownsville Volunteer Fire Company puts out the hot spots of a house fire on Green Street in Brownsville Thursday. Fire officials declared the home at a total loss.

A Brownsville house was destroyed Thursday morning in a fire, according to officials on the scene.

No one was home when the fire started at 439 Green St. just before 10 a.m. and no injuries were reported, said South Brownsville 2nd Lieutenant Don Thomas.

“We went into attack mode and went in through the front door,” he said.

He said it appears that the fire started on the first floor. A fire marshal was called to investigate, but Thomas said the fire did not appear to be suspicious.

Thomas said that with the help of mutual aid departments, the fire was extinguished quickly.

Brownsville, Hiller and West Brownsville fire departments assisted South Brownsville at the scene.
