Rev. Michael Sciberras Applause
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg announces the Rev. Michael J. Sciberras is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.
Born in Detroit, Sciberras’ home parish was Holy Trinity. He attended Assumption College, Windsor, Ontario; University of Detroit; Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit; St. John Provincial Seminary, Detroit; and the former St. Francis Seminary, Loretto.
Sciberras was ordained to the priesthood May 13, 1967, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, by Bishop William G. Connare.
His pastoral appointments included: parochial vicar, former St. Cajetan Parish, Monessen, 1967-68, and St. Regis Parish, Trafford, 1968 and 1971-74; pastor, former St. John the Baptist Parish, Heilwood, and its former chapels in Alverda and CameronÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Bottom, 1974-83, former Holy Rosary Parish, Republic, 1983-92, Immaculate Conception Parish, Connellsville, and its former chapel in Dawson, 1992-2001, and Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish, East Vandergrift, 2001-08. He was named senior priest active with pastoral responsibilities at St. James the Greater Parish, Apollo, and Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish, East Vandergrift, with residence at Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish.
His diocesan appointments were spiritual director, diocesan Cursillo Movement, 1971-90; assistant principal, Greensburg Central Catholic High School, 1968-69; and chaplain and instructor, Seton Hill College, Greensburg, 1969-71.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired July 1, 2015.
Greensburg Bishop Edward C. Malesic celebrated a special Mass for priests celebrating jubilee anniversaries of ordination June 1 at the Bishop Connare Center in Greensburg.
