A 100-year-old tombstone was one of around 18 headstones in St. MaryĢƵ cemetery in Leckrone that were found on Monday to have been vandalized, with some kicked over and others broken. A vehicle drove through the grass at the chapel, spattering mud across the windows and the wall, and crushing a downspout on the corner of the structure.

Eighteen headstones were toppled at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic cemetery over the weekend, according to Greensburg Catholic Diocese spokesman Jerry Zufelt.
Zufelt said some of the headstones at the Leckrone cemetery were chipped, but none were shattered. A drainage pipe at a chapel on the property was also damaged, he said.
State police are investigating. The estimated cost of the damages has not yet been determined.
The cemetery is a part of St. Francis of Assisi parish in German Township. On April 14, Good Friday, a New Salem man allegedly drove through the yard of the parish, knocking over religious statues and throwing a bench at a shrine.
“Obviously, any vandalism in a consecrated place like a cemetery is upsetting to people, especially those who have loved ones buried there,” Zufelt said. “This is more upsetting because itĢƵ the second time in just over two weeks that there has been vandalism at that parish.”
