By The 1 min read

Thunderstorms with heavy winds are expected to hit the Mon Valley and Fayette and Greene counties Monday afternoon, with the small threat of hail and a tornado, according to the National Weather Service.

Meterologist Tom Green said thunderstorms are expected in Fayette County between 3 and 5 p.m., and in Greene County between 1 and 2 p.m.

“The main threat that we are looking at today is damaging winds,” he said.

Winds of up to 60 miles per hour are expected to accompany the thunderstorms.

“There is also a small threat that we could be experiencing severe hail,” he said, adding that the hail could be about one-inch in diameter, or approximately the size of a quarter.

Green said there is a slight threat of a tornado in the region, which could touch down anywhere in Fayette County, Greene County or the Mon Valley.
