A Uniontown man was shot five times early Friday, three of the bullets hitting him in vital areas of the body, Uniontown police said.

Steven “Doodle” Lewis, 27, of Uniontown was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. His condition is not yet known.

Uniontown City Police Lt. Tom Kolencik said police were called to Austin Street for a report of a shooting at about 2 a.m. When they arrived, they learned someone drove Lewis to Uniontown Hospital in a personal vehicle. He was flown from there to the Pittsburgh hospital.

Police interviewed him at the hospital, where he was “unwilling or unable” to identify the shooter, Kolencik said.

“We are still investigating what led up to the shooting, so we are relying on the help of the public, or of the victim if he is able to help us when he is more stable,” Kolencik said.

Anyone with more information is asked to call Uniontown City Police at (724) 430-2929 or Fayette County Crime Stoppers at (724) 320-2042.
