Uniontown man allegedly robs his mom, steals her car

A Uniontown man is in jail after his mother reported he robbed her, stole her car and then went back to her house to sleep after police issued a warrant for his arrest.

Harry Robert Neil, 43, is charged with robbery, unauthorized use of motor vehicles, theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault.

His mother, Nancy Neil, told police he was “badgering her for gas money” early Friday at their West Kerr Street house. She grabbed her purse and tried to call 911, but her son reportedly pulled the phone cord out of the wall. Instead, she tried to flee, court documents indicate.

Neil allegedly chased her and grabbed her, knocked her onto the couch and attempted to steal her purse, which she had wrapped around her arm. The strap snapped, and he took her wallet before stealing her 2014 Chevrolet Sonic, police said.

After the incident, police issued a warrant for Neil’s arrest, and his mother filed for a protection-from-abuse order. She filed a new report after she went home Sunday and found her son sleeping in his bed, police said.

Uniontown City Police took him into custody without incident, they said. He was also served with a protection-from-abuse order.

Neil was arraigned Sunday before on-call Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. Shimshock and lodged in Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $35,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for 1:30 p.m. May 30 before Shimshock.
