The Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg announces the Rev. Alexander L. Pleban is celebrating the 60th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.

Born in Wynn, PlebanÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ home parish was Ss. Cyril & Methodius Parish, Fairchance. He attended the former St. Fidelis High School and Seminary, Herman; St. Vincent College, Latrobe; and St. MaryÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Seminary, Baltimore.

Pleban was ordained to the priesthood May 25, 1957, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, by Bishop Hugh L. Lamb.

His pastoral appointments included: parochial vicar, St. Florian Parish, United, 1957-59, and St. Edward Parish, Herminie, 1959-65; pastor, St. Joseph Parish, Everson, 1966-73, Holy Cross Parish, Youngwood, and its former chapel in Hunker, 1973-82, St. Edward Parish, 1982-94 and St. Joseph Parish, Uniontown, 1994-2010.

His diocesan appointments were: religion teacher, Greensburg Central Catholic High School, 1960-64; executive secretary, The Catholic Accent, 1964-69 and director of Bureau of Information; director of pilgrimages and director of cemeteries, chaplain of Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood; Board of Consultors, three terms; Priests’ Council, four terms; Priests’ Personnel Committee; and Priests’ Benefits Board.

Pleban retired Aug. 18, 2010, with residence at Neumann House, Greensburg.

Greensburg Bishop Edward C. Malesic will celebrate a special Mass for priests celebrating jubilee anniversaries of ordination June 1 at the Bishop Connare Center in Greensburg.
