Rev. Robert Byrnes Applause
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg announces the Rev. Robert R. Byrnes is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.
Born in McKeesport, Brynes’ home parish was St. Joseph Parish, Duquesne. He attended the Pontifical College Josephinum, Worthington, Ohio; St. Gregory Seminary, Cincinnati; and St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe.
Byrnes was ordained to the priesthood May 13, 1967, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Greensburg, by Bishop William G. Connare.
His pastoral appointments included: parochial vicar, Our Lady of Grace Parish, Greensburg, 1967-70, Holy Family Parish, Latrobe, 1970-71 and Immaculate Conception Parish, Connellsville, 1971-74; pastor, St. Hubert Parish, Point Marion, 1974-91 and the former Assumption Parish, Leechburg, 1991-98.
Brynes’ diocesan appointments were: director, diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting, and chaplain, Excela Health, Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.
He retired March 8, 2012, with residence at Neumann House.
Byrnes continues to serve as chaplain of Pennsylvania State Police Troop A, 2000-present; Greensburg Police Department, 2016-present; the Westmoreland County Law Enforcement Officers Association and Mutual Aid. He is also a member of the board of St. Anne Home, Greensburg.
Greensburg Bishop Edward C. Malesic will celebrate a special Mass for priests celebrating jubilee anniversaries of ordination June 1 at the Bishop Connare Center in Greensburg.
