Waynesburg couple charged after traffic stop in Redstone Township

A woman tried to escape with a man’s shorts after a police officer found drugs in his pocket following a traffic stop, Redstone Township police said.

Driver Kayla Lea Debolt, 29, and Shawn Edward Martisko, 33, both of 437 Race St., are charged in the case.

Patrolman Jacob Nunley noticed the windshield of their Buick was severely cracked in Debolt’s field of vision. He pulled over the car on Republic Road near Dollar General at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, court documents indicate.

Nunley searched them and found Suboxone pills on Martisko, he said. When the officer felt a rocky substance in Martisko’s pocket, he allegedly tried to break free, wrestled the officer on the ground and shouted, “Get it out of my pocket! Get my pants!” according to paperwork filed in the case.

Debolt allegedly pushed Nunley off Martisko and took his pants, fleeing the scene until the officer used a Taser on her.

Debolt is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, tampering with physical evidence, obstruction of justice and possession of a controlled substance.

Martisko is charged with resisting arrest, escape and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Both are jailed in the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bonds. They face a preliminary at 2 p.m. Oct. 23.
