Charleroi man arrested on drug charges

By The 1 min read

A Charleroi man was arrested and jailed after a brief chase by Washington County Sheriff’s deputies who were serving warrants Thursday night.

Nicholas J. Fincik, 34, was found with 24 bags of heroin and $5,000 cash, according to sheriff’s deputies.

He and another man were in the yard at 714 Second St. and ran when they spotted deputies who arrived to serve a bench warrant on Fincik, authorities said. Deputies said they used a taser and apprehended both men. The second man, who deputies said had seven bags of heroin and a small amount of cash, had not yet been charged Friday afternoon.

Fincik was charged with possession with intent to deliver. He was arraigned Friday morning before Magisterial District Judge Larry W. Hopkins, who set bail at $350,000 in the case.

He was arrested on drug charges in Washington and Westmoreland counties six times between 2009 and 2016. On May 25, police said he was severely beaten in a robbery at his Park Avenue apartment in Belle Vernon.

He remains in Washington County Prison in lieu of bond.

Fincik faces a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Oct. 5.
