Police: Man suspected of burglaries in four counties arrested in Greene

A man police believe is responsible for burglaries in Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties was arrested after allegedly burglarizing a Dunkard Township store Friday.

The state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation was conducting surveillance on Briar David Jones, 22, of Grindstone. He was arrested when he returned to his truck in a pulloff along Newton Road at about 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to court documents.

Police allege Jones broke into Dilliner 9 to 9 convenience store and stole five cartons of cigarettes and a bottle of Mountain Dew. He was found with burglary tools including prybars, screwdrivers, a hammer and a flashlight, court paperwork said.

He is charged with burglary, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, theft and receiving stolen property.

Jones is lodged in Greene County Prison in lieu of a $150,000 bond.

He faces a preliminary hearing 2:30 p.m. Sept. 18.
