A Uniontown man was arrested after he allegedly threatened to shoot up a Belle Vernon business because he learned he would be furloughed and his cat died.

Charles B. Mort, 64, of 93 Mont View St. is charged with risking a catastrophe, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. He is lodged in Fayette County Prison without bail.

Uniontown City Police and state police surrounded his home early Thursday after his friend reported MortÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ threats. He surrendered within about three minutes, police said.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, Mort was drinking and upset and called his friend, Ray Wentworth, to say he planned to shoot up Valley Tire in Belle Vernon. Mort told Wentworth his cat was mauled to death that morning, and then he learned he would be furloughed on Friday. He said he planned to shoot up the business. After Wentworth attempted to calm him, Mort told him he was going to the basement to see his dead cat, Buddy, and loading a gun.

Mort was interviewed by Uniontown City Police and allegedly admitted to telling Wentworth he planned to shoot up Valley Tire, saying he was upset about his cat and displeased with his managers. He declined mental health treatment, police said.

He was arraigned Thursday morning by on-call Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino, who denied bail because of his alleged threats.
