Uniontown police investigating ongoing rock throwing incidents

Uniontown City Police are working to identify people who have been throwing rocks at cars and buildings in the city during the last two weeks.

“It’s going on almost nightly with cars, a few houses and businesses,” Lt. Tom Kolencik said.

Most incidents have occurred in the early evening close to dark at about 7:30 or 8 p.m. Many cases were reported on Connellsville Street, along with a few calls in the downtown area, he said.

Police have identified people of interest, but have not yet gathered enough proof for an arrest. He encouraged the public to call if they see suspicious activity so police can prevent the incidents from happening.

“Before someone gets seriously hurt, or one of the kids gets hit by a car, or someone decides to take justice into their own hands, we want to curb it,” he said.

Kolencik said he is concerned a person throwing rocks could be hit by a vehicle or cause an accident.

Some of the most costly damages occurred with vehicles when rocks smashed windows or dented fenders. Windows were also broken out at several homes, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Uniontown City Police Department at 724-430-2929 or Fayette County Crime Stoppers at 724-320-2042.
