A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death at a South Union Township hotel Christmas Day where he was planning to spend the holidays, officials said.

State police identified the victim as Tre Montel McCargo of Uniontown. He was fatally stabbed at Holiday Inn Express at about 2 p.m. and succumbed to his injuries, according to state police.

A woman is in custody. State police are working to determine whether the stabbing was in self-defense, according to State Police Tpr. Robert Broadwater.

“She is in custody, cooperating with us,” Broadwater said.

Charges had not been filed as of Tuesday evening.

Hotel staff called 911 at 2 p.m. when McCargo walked into the hotel lobby. He was bleeding from at least one stab wound, police said.

Police did not release details on the weapon, saying only it was a pointed object.

State police remained on the scene into Tuesday evening. A state police forensics unit was also on the scene.
