New details released in fatal Christmas Day stabbing at South Union hotel
The fatal Christmas Day stabbing at a South Union Township hotel stemmed from a domestic altercation between a couple, according to state police.
Dominique Erneice Jones, 27, of Hortense Street in Uniontown is charged with criminal homicide in the death of her boyfriend, Tre Montel McCargo, 25, also from Uniontown. She was denied bail in the case.
The couple was planning to spend the holidays together at the Holiday Inn Express on Mary Higgins Lane. They reportedly got into a fight in room 110 of the hotel Tuesday afternoon. At about 2 p.m., Jones allegedly stabbed McCargo in the right side of his neck with a kitchen knife. She admitted to stabbing McCargo, according to court paperwork.
State police, EMS and other first responders rushed to the scene after a hotel worker called 911. McCargo was found in the lobby, where he reportedly went for help.
Police found a blood trail leading from the hotel room to the lobby, blood in the hotel room and a kitchen knife in the bathroom sink of room 110.
McCargo was taken to Uniontown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 3 p.m. Jones was taken into custody and interviewed by state police.
She was arraigned Tuesday night before on-call Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr. Jones is lodged in Fayette County Prison. She faces a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 8 before Defino. Charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Jeffries. Court documents do not indicate whether she has hired an attorney.
The couple have children together. Friends and family flooded social media following McCargoĢƵ death, expressing shock that Jones allegedly stabbed her boyfriend and grief that he was killed. They shared memories of McCargo and called on Uniontown to “stop the violence.”
