One dead following two-vehicle crash in Wharton Township

Emergency personnel rerouted traffic off of Route 40 onto Wharton Furnace Road (State Route 2003) in Wharton Township after a crash occurred along Route 40 that resulted in one fatality Sunday afternoon.

A two-vehicle crash along Route 40 in Wharton Township resulted in one fatality Sunday afternoon, according to Fayette County 911.

The call for the incident came into Fayette County 911 at 12:11 p.m., Fayette 911 said, and the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 40 were closed near Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road, as the accident occurred in the westbound lane of Route 40 just west of Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road, according to Fayette County 911.

Emergency officials did not confirm the number of people involved in the crash as of Sunday afternoon. 

Route 40 was reopened to traffic in the area Sunday afternoon several hours after the crash, Fayette County 911 noted.

Fayette EMS and volunteer fire departments from Farmington, Ohiopyle and Hopwood responded to the incident in addition to state police, according to Fayette County 911.
