Charleroi Area School District investigating shooting threat found at school

1 min read

Charleroi Area School District officials posted a letter to parents, detailing a school shooting threat found Wednesday.

Superintendent Ed Zelich said the threat was found written on the wall in the second floor boys’ bathroom near the science wing at dismissal time.

“I am shooting the school on March 12th,” it said.

Zelich said a teacher and assistant high school principal found it.

“Our school resource officer and local police department are currently launching an investigation,” Zelich said. “Extra security measures will be in place until the investigation is concluded.”

He said the person who made the threat will face “serious repercussions,” including criminal charges and potential expulsion from school.

Zelich invited parents to call or email him with questions or concerns at 724-483-3509, ext. 1213 or ezelich@charleroisd.org.

The threat at Charleroi is the latest in several made at area schools. Officials in Connellsville Area and Uniontown Area school districts in Fayette County, and Ringgold School District in Washington County have also reported threats in recent days.

Those all proved to be unfounded, and resulted in criminal charges.

Earlier Wednesday, students at Mount Pleasant School District in Westmoreland County were sent home early because of a reported threat.
