Boil water advisory continues for Fairchance, parts of Georges Township

By Mike Tony mtony@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

A boil water advisory for Fairchance borough and parts of Georges Township is likely to continue until at least Wednesday.

Fairchance Borough Council Vice President Neal Christopher said that water samples sent to the state Department of Environmental Protection Monday morning from supplier North Fayette County Municipal Authority will likely take approximately two to two and a half days for the DEP to test before it ends the advisory, which Christopher said was prompted by a water line break on Dry Knob Road in Georges Township Sunday around 1:30 p.m.

The water supply there in Fairchance and Georges Township is still suitable for cooking and showering but not drinking, Christopher said.

Fairchance borough water clerk Diana Blystone said that the advisory would likely end Wednesday night or Thursday morning and noted that water buffaloes have been placed at the borough building, fire hall and Liberty Hall.

Blystone said that this was the borough’s second boil water advisory this month, as the borough was placed under another such advisory on Jan. 12 following another water line break. Blystone attributed the recent water line breaks to the freezing and thawing of pipes due to the month’s extreme weather patterns.
