Man charged with pointing gun at Waynesburg police
A Waynesburg man was arrested after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers, telling them to get out of the road as they conducted an investigation.
Jerry Lee Cooke, 49, of Champion Drive is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and two counts of DUI.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, Cooke approached officers in his vehicle in the area of Pecjak’s Sunoco at about 9:20 p.m. Monday, then pointed a gun at them as they approached his vehicle. He drove away, and was later stopped and taken into custody on South Alley behind Avalon Court. Two loaded firearms were found in his truck, police said. He reportedly appeared intoxicated and urinated himself. He consented to a breath analysis which indicated his blood-alcohol content was 0.18, more than twice the legal limit to drive.
Cooke was arraigned Tuesday morning before Magisterial District Judge D. Glenn Bates, who set bail at $25,000. He was released from Greene County Prison later Tuesday after a percentage bond was posted on his behalf.
