Carroll Township home destroyed in fire

By Alyssa Choiniere achoiniere@heraldstandard.Com 1 min read

Two people escaped from a fire at their Carroll Township house Friday night but lost their home in the blaze, officials said.

Carroll Township fire Chief Rob Greenlee said flames were already shooting through the roof when the two occupants fled the house at 1269 Country Club Road. A neighbor called 911 just before 8 p.m. after seeing the flames.

Crews were on scene for six hours working to extinguish the fire. The large house had multiple additions, creating closed areas and voids that made it difficult to put out the fire, Greenlee said. Fire damaged the first and second floors, and the finished basement sustained water damage, he said.

No injuries were reported. A state police fire marshal was called to investigate the cause of the fire Monday afternoon.

Valley Inn, Donora, Monongahela, New Eagle and Gallatin-Sunnyside fire departments and a Mon Valley EMS rehab unit assisted at the scene.
