A family of three was left homeless after a fire tore through their Dunbar Township home Friday afternoon.

Six fire companies were called to the blaze on Dunbar Road across from Butchko Bros. Inc. at about 2:30 p.m., said Dunbar fire Chief Mike Breakiron. A state police fire marshal was called to determine the cause of the fire. Breakiron said it did not appear suspicious. The trailer was destroyed.

Tenant Mike Little Sr. said he had just stepped outside when a neighbor told him his home was on fire.

“I just lost the other house I owned, started over,” he said.

He lived in the trailer for about four months with his wife and 23-year-old son. Little said he was “disgusted” and saddened by the loss. He did not hold renters insurance.

“Everything, we lost everything,” he said, looking at the shell of his former home.

Pat Rose, who owned the trailer with her husband, said she was at the office when her husband called.

“He said, ‘Hurry up. Get down there. The trailer is on fire,” she said, shaking her head. “I’m just so glad no one got hurt.”

The property was insured, she said. She and her husband paid to refurbish the interior of the trailer several times over the 10 years they owned it, she said.

Little said he was not sure where he and his family would spend the night.

Dunbar fire department was assisted by Connellsville Township, Flatwoods, West Leisenring, Monarch and Morrell fire departments and Fayette EMS.
