Connellsville man facing attempted homicide charge in Isabella Dumps stabbing

A Connellsville man allegedly stabbed another man in the chest with an 11-inch blade in front of two juveniles, telling them he “just stabbed some kid.”

State police issued an arrest warrant Thursday afternoon for Richard Jacob Miller, 27, of Skylark Drive. He allegedly stabbed Tegan Spohn at about 1:30 a.m. in East Millsboro at the Isabella Dumps.

Spohn survived the stabbing. Police said the knife entered his chest at a downward angle, slicing his intestines. He required two surgeries and 20 staples. A section of his intestines was removed. He now has an 8-inch scar across his abdomen, according to paperwork filed in the case.

Miller reportedly admitted to stabbing Spohn in a state police interview March 2, claiming it was done in self defense. He said they were fighting and both hit each other.

Spohn also reportedly told police they fought before the stabbing. He said Miller told him he was going to stab him, then went back to his truck for a knife, court documents said.

State police interviewed both juveniles, whose ages were not specified. Both reportedly said they saw the two men fighting, and then saw Miller stab Spohn. The first juvenile told police Miller jumped out of his truck, leaving it in drive. It started to roll away. She reported putting the truck in park, and looking to see what was happening. She said the two men were fighting and hit each other. She reportedly saw Miller walk back to the truck, grab a knife and return to stab Spohn. She said he jumped in the truck and left, saying he “just stabbed some kid and needed to find a place to ditch the knife.”

Miller is charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.

Charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Mike Defino Jr.
