Former Uniontown funeral director facing additional charges
A former funeral director accused of stealing from clients who were pre-paying for their own funerals is facing additional charges after more victims reportedly came forward, bringing the total heÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ alleged of taking to nearly $530,000.
A second criminal complaint was filed against Stephen Edward Kezmarsky III, 50, of Uniontown, prior to his preliminary hearing scheduled for this afternoon.Â
He is facing an additional charge of insurance fraud and 44 additional counts each of theft by deception and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds. Investigators allege he stole $244,377.54 from the additional victims.
In January, Kezmarsky was charged with stealing $284,393 from clients who had pre-paid for funerals.
Between October 2010 and March 2017, Kezmarsky allegedly collected advance payments from 51 clients to cover funeral expenses at his former business, Kezmarsky Funeral Home. Instead of placing the money in escrow accounts as required under state law, Kezmarsky co-mingled the funds with his business and personal accounts and misappropriated his clients’ money, police alleged.
He waived charges in both of the cases to Fayette County Court.
