Several area school districts dismiss early due to heat
Temperatures predicted to be in the 90s early this week have prompted several area school districts to dismiss students early:
Fayette County
n Laurel Highlands School District will dismiss its middle school at noon, elementary schools at 1 p.m. and high school at 2 p.m. today and Wednesday.
n Conn-Area Catholic School will dismiss at 12:45 p.m. today and Wednesday. Van and bus transportation will be available and car pick up must not block van or bus traffic in the lot. School officials have asked parents to send a note explaining how students will go home. The school will not offer extended care either day.
n Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior High School will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. today and Wednesday.
Westmoreland County
n Mount Pleasant Area School District will dismiss elementary school students at Norvelt, Ramsay, Rumbaugh and Donegal at 1 p.m. through Thursday. Superintendent Timothy M. Gabauer said the elementary schools have limited spaces with air conditioning and noted the Norvelt and Ramsay schools have several second floor classrooms. He noted absences from school necessitated by family circumstances would be considered excused with an appropriate written excuse.
Washington County
n Beth-Center School District will dismiss 2 hours early today and Wednesday.
Greene County
n Central Greene School District will dismiss at 1 p.m. today.
