Ringgold to demolish old church building
GASTONVILLE – Ringgold School District is preparing to demolish an old, run-down Methodist church building it received in a donation.
The district will accept bids from contractors through May 10 for the project next to Ringgold Elementary School North in Union Township, said Randy Skrinjorich, the districtĢƵ director of operations and financial services.
“That building is not in any position to fix or do anything with it,” Skrinjorich said Thursday.
“ItĢƵ an eyesore and it gets a lot of water in the basement,” he said.
The district received the property at 3687 Finleyville Elrama Road in April 2012 from Union Roads United Methodist Church when its congregation had grown too small to remain active.
The buildingĢƵ stained-glass windows will be sold in an online auction along with modular units the district used to reduce overcrowding and items that have been salvaged from the old Ringgold Middle School in Finleyville, Skrinjorich said.
He said the sale organized by Hostetter Auctioneers of Big Beaver will go live sometime next week.
The district hopes to have the building razed this summer, at which time the windows will be available to the buyer.
The property could eventually be used for parking.
