Man allegedly threatened to kill North Belle Vernon officer
A Scenery Hill man is facing assault charges after he allegedly charged at a police officer during a backyard fight in North Belle Vernon.
Kenneth Charles Schultz, 27, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct before Westmoreland County Magisterial District Judge Charles Christner.
The charges were filed by North Belle Vernon Police, who responded to a call along Bluff Street at 4 a.m.Thursday for a large fight in a backyard.
Upon arrival, police found three men and a woman in the backyard. As an officer shined his flashlight at Schultz, he allegedly charged at the officer and grabbed the officer’s hand that was holding the flashlight, trying to take it from the officer’s hand.
Schultz was handcuffed and was found to have a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and was highly intoxicated, police said.
He was transported to the station where he allegedly threatened to assault the officer and kill him.
Schultz is currently lodged in the Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled at 10 a.m. Aug. 19 before Christner.
