Police: Brownsville man used brass knuckles in assault
A man was injured and flown to a hospital after another man allegedly assaulted him using brass knuckles during a fight Sunday night in Brownsville.
Robert William Fowler IV, 18, of Pearl Street was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and disorderly conduct.
Police said Blaine Hormell suffered serious traumatic injuries to the side of his face. He was treated by Brownsville EMS and taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh by medical helicopter. He told police Fowler hit him multiple times in the face with brass knuckles at the intersection of Pearl Street and Cadwallader Street at about 7:20 p.m., according to court documents.
Fowler’s girlfriend told state police the men were in a fist fight and left the scene. Fowler told police he and Hormell were in “a mutual fight” and then separated, according to court documents. Police said Fowler had a bruise on his side and fresh injury to his hands. Hormell was not charged in the case.
Fowler was arraigned Monday morning before on-call Magisterial District Judge Jennifer Jeffries, who set bail at $20,000. Bail was later reduced to $15,000 at the request of family, court documents noted.
