Three charged with child abuse in Dunbar
Three people are facing charges after children were allegedly found living in squalor in a Dunbar home with a registered sex offender and no food in the house.
Linda Lee Benedetto, 44, Christina Marie Benedetto, 19, and Charles Herbert Moore, 20, all of Brick Road in Dunbar, were arrested Monday and charged with two felony counts each of endangering the welfare of children.
Court documents indicated the residents threatened to shoot authorities if state police or workers from Fayette County Children and Youth Services came to the house. A county judge ordered CYS to remove the children from the home Monday and state police opened an investigation and assisted case workers on the scene.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, dirty diapers and other trash were strewn throughout the house. Investigators said they could find no food inside, and one of the children had severe diaper rash.
Linda Benedetto, the children’s grandmother, told police the parents work and she cares for the children.
They were each arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Richard Kasunic II Monday, who set bail at $30,000. Linda Benedetto posted bail. Christina Benedetto and Moore remain in Fayette County Prison.
