A New Salem man was arrested on attempted homicide charges and denied bail for allegedly stabbing a man with a pocket knife on Second Street in Georges Township Friday.

Frank Edward Voytek, 29, of Carr Street allegedly pulled Joseph P. Kissinger from a vehicle at about noon and stabbed him in the torso.

Kissinger was taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment and later released.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, Brittney Miller was dropping Kissinger off at his home. He told state police he leaned over to give her a hug, and Voytek dragged him outside and stabbed him, saying “You’re gonna die, (expletive). Voytek allegedly threw him on the ground, punching and kicking him. Kissinger eventually escaped, and Voytek fled. Miller fled and returned after Kissinger called her, saying he was stabbed and bleeding profusely. She drove him to the hospital.

Miller told police Voytek called her and sent text messages, questioning why she was “cheating” on him and asking “why she would do this” to him, according to court documents.

State police found a pocket knife across the street from Kissinger’s home, smeared with blood and tissue remnants on the blade, police said.

Miller was visiting from Tennessee, according to court documents. Kissinger was a victim in a second assault and home invasion in Fairchance Tuesday night. Kevin M. Pitts, 33, rushed into an apartment and allegedly assaulted Kissinger and Brandon Kissinger. It did not appear the incidents were related.

Voytek is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, stalking, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

He was arraigned Friday night before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. Shimshock, who denied bail in the case. Voytek remains in Fayette County Prison. His preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for 1:30 p.m. before Shimshock.
