Body of 87-year-old Dunbar man, missing since Monday, found
A three-day search for a missing 87-year-old man concluded Thursday afternoon when the manĢƵ body was found in Dunbar Township.
Luther “Lukie” Bryner was found dead in the area of a coal ash dump off of Bute Road around 1:30 p.m. There were no signs of foul play, according to state police Trooper Robert Broadwater.
Officials believe he died from exposure.
Bryner had last been seen on foot near his Rankin Airshaft Road home at about 10:30 p.m. Monday. Police said he was wearing a T-shirt and pajama pants.
Officials searched over several days, noting they believed Bryner suffered from ParkinsonĢƵ disease or dementia. He was found less than one mile from his home, said Broadwater.
Investigators were unsure how Bryner found his way to the ash dump, although they believe he made his way on foot.
“If he suffered from some kind of dementia, then obviously heĢƵ wandering about. Especially at night, he’d be disoriented and end up getting lost,” he said.
Several area agencies participated in the search since Tuesday using dogs, horses and all-terrain vehicles. The search including state police, the Mountaineer Area Rescue Group, Fayette County SheriffĢƵ Search and Rescue, Lower Kiski Search and Rescue, Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group, White Oak Search and Rescue and West Leisenring Volunteer Fire Department.
