Power restored at Cal U, classes to resume Friday
Power was restored at California University of Pennsylvania Thursday following an overnight outage, according to an update posted on the universityĢƵ website just before 9 p.m.
Classes will resume Friday on schedule, according to the update.
The campus was closed Thursday due to the outage, which Christine Kindl, vice president for communications and marketing at Cal U, said was caused by an equipment failure, depriving power of about two thirds of Cal UĢƵ buildings.
Kindl noted there were emergency generators in key buildings, including the Convocation Center, where a warming center has been set up. As of around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, power was restored to the Convocation Center and the Natali Student Center, according to the universityĢƵ website.
Kindl said the temperatures in Cal UĢƵ residence halls were still comfortable as of Thursday afternoon.
“We’re lucky to have had a warm day,” Kindl said.
A notice on Cal UĢƵ website indicated that only essential personnel were to report to campus.
“If your students are on campus, we’re taking good care of them,” Kindl said. “We will keep them warm, we will feed them. We are just cancelling classes because our academic buildings don’t have power.”
Vulcan Flyer shuttles operated on the usual schedule.
Vulcan Village was not affected by the outage, Kindl said.
