A Main Street home in Jacobs Creek was destroyed in a fire Wednesday afternoon, and an abandoned house also caught fire, officials said.

No injuries were reported. The residents called 911 to reported a kitchen fire and escaped the burning house at about 4 p.m., according to Turkeytown Volunteer Fire Department Captain Jamie Pergola.

When firefighters arrived on scene in South Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, the fire had already jumped to the unoccupied house next door.

“When we arrived, the house was mostly involved at that point, and it was beginning to spread to the second floor of the second house,” Pergola said.

He was unsure how many people lived in the first home. The second house sustained minor damage to the roof and second floor. A state police fire marshal was called to investigate the cause.

At least seven fire departments assisted Turkeytown on the scene, Pergola said.
