Carnegie Free Library Applause
Carnegie Free Library of Connellsville is now a PA Forward Gold Star library, having received the highest recognition for achievement in five core literacy initiatives form PA Forward Libraries.
“We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to serving the needs of our patrons,” said Eileen Beveridge, director of Carnegie Free Library. “Libraries play a vital role in developing a robust, well-informed community.”
The five types of literacy defined by PA Forward are basic, information, civic and social, health and financial. To receive the Gold Star, a library must demonstrate that it promotes PA Forward objectives and provides services and programming in each category.
PA Forward Libraries is an initiative of the Pennsylvania Library association.
Officials explain, “It was created to give voice to what the library community already knows and what other states throughout the nation are also recognizing: With the right support, libraries are ideally positioned to become the community centers of information, technology and learning that will fuel educational and economic opportunity for all citizens.”
