Teen arrested after allegedly advancing on police with knife in Uniontown
A teen was arrested and charged as an adult after she allegedly advanced on officers with a large knife in Uniontown Monday evening.
Police were responding to a report of a large fight involving at least one gun and two knives outside 49 Pershing Court. Jamayla Jones, 16, of South Grant Street was found holding a woman’s arm behind her back, police said.
Both state police and Uniontown City Police responded to the scene at about 4:41 p.m. State troopers told Jones to show her hands, and a bystander said she had a knife. She allegedly put the knife to her side and refused to drop it, “which she ignored as she advanced toward troopers,” Trooper Thomas Lizik wrote in the affidavit.
Police repeatedly told her to drop the knife, and she allegedly continued advancing toward troopers and city police. A trooper and a city officer deployed Tasers at her, court documents said.
Jones was taken into custody and police seized the knife.
She is facing six counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and one count each of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Jones was arraigned Sunday night by on-call Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. Shimshock, who set bail at $75,000. She was released Tuesday after bail was posted on her behalf.
