A Uniontown man was charged Friday for allegedly fleeing police in October.

Zelcon Demeze Walker, 23, broke his leg and shattered his knee after he reportedly crashed into a jersey barrier in Hopwood. He denied driving the car.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed in his case, Uniontown City Police Cpl. Jeremy Schult saw a black Nissan Altima make a dangerous maneuver at the intersection of Pennsylvania Street and Jefferson Street at about 1 a.m. Oct. 5 and accelerate onto Fayette Street. Schult attempted to pull over the driver, and he allegedly fled at 100 miles per hour on Route 40 near the Blue Mountain Motel. Schult notified state police of the pursuit. Walker allegedly crashed into the jersey barrier near the ramp to Route 40 west. Schult recognized Walker, who was lying in the road. He had an arrest warrant through Uniontown City Police. Schult called EMS and a fire department to the location. A second man, Devin Walker, was on the passenger side. Devin Walker said he was in pain but denied needing transport to the hospital. Zelcon Walker was taken to Uniontown Hospital and later transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of his lower leg and knee.

Both men had suspended licenses and denied driving the car, which was rented from Tri-Star Nissan. Insurance paperwork in the car indicated Zelcon Walker applied for the rental. A key for the car was found in his bed. Police said his DNA was found on the steering wheel and driverÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ side airbag. He and Devin Walker also had residue on their shirts that appeared to come from airbags, according to court documents.

Zelcon Walker was charged with flight to avoid apprehension and traffic violations.

He has an extensive criminal history. He is awaiting his preliminary hearing for allegedly planning a robbery in Redstone Township in May. He was also charged with conspiracy to commit robbery in a separate case in Redstone Township in September 2017. Walker is in Fayette County Prison in lieu of $50,000 awaiting his preliminary hearing in the May robbery. Bail has not yet been set in the new case.
