CSX train hits car on tracks in Dawson
A woman was uninjured when a CSX train hit her car at a crossing in Dawson at about 10:30 a.m. Friday.
The train hit the rear passenger side of her car at the intersection of Strickler and Railroad streets. The train blocked traffic at five intersections in Dawson for about 1 1/2 hours.
The intersection is marked with train crossing signs. There are no lights or crossing bars.
Two collisions occurred with CSX trains at Railroad Street and Laughlin Street in the last year, which is one block from Strickler Street. The crossing with Laughlin Street has flashing lights in addition to the crossing signs.
Train traffic has a limited speed limit through the town of 30 miles per hour, CSX officials said.
The Public Utility Commission launched an investigation into safety measures at the Laughlin Street crossing in October after two serious accidents were reported in less than two months. On Oct. 10, Bobbi Jo Sponaugle, 34, of Scottdale suffered serious injuries after her car was hit by a CSX train at the intersection. On Aug. 15, a 9-year-old boy riding a bicycle was seriously injured when a CSX train hit him.
