Shooting suspect captured in Charleroi

By Scott Beveridge for The 2 min read

A drug raid in Charleroi last month not only produced marijuana, but also netted a man wanted in a shooting in Allegheny County.

Allegheny police detectives assisted Charleroi Regional officers in searching 518 Lincoln Ave. May 21 and taking Andrew Lee Roberts into custody as a suspect in the May 19 robbery and shooting in Jefferson Hills, court records indicate.

The search warrant had been approved by District Judge Jesse Pettit to search for Roberts, 26, of Clairton, and the weapon used to shoot a woman in the shoulder, court records show.

The warrants were obtained after police surrounded 518 Lincoln and there was no response to commands for Roberts to come out of the apartment building.

Roberts left while police went before Pettit, but was eventually detained and sent to Allegheny County jail, where he was held without bond until June 3 on charges including attempted homicide. A court official said Roberts was then released under house arrest pending the outcome of that case.

The Charleroi search produced 63.5 grams of marijuana and two vials of THC, a compound that causes a high in marijuana, court records indicate.

In the Charleroi case, Roberts was charged with drug possession with intent to deliver, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, Amber Lynn Roberts, 31, of 210 Oneida St., Monessen, was charged with drug possession stemming from the same case.

District Judge Larry Hopkins issued those charges Wednesday by summons.
